All-Inclusives | Tidewater Cruise & Travel

How We Got Here

Every travel business has an origin story. Ours begins, improbably enough, with a Canadian business coach named Corey.

Corey was — is — Canadian. Which means he was laid back about almost everything except hockey and beer. If it wasn't Labatt, it wasn't beer. Drink enough of it and you develop what Canadians affectionately call "Molson muscles," which look less like a six-pack and more like a long-term relationship with six-packs.

When we launched Tidewater Cruise and Travel, we were firmly cruise-focused. Corey gave Janet one piece of advice that turned out to be foundational: be ready for clients who want more than cruises. He was right. Annoyingly so, but he was so nice about it we had to listen. I'm glad we did.

That's how we found ourselves spending less time on ships and more time on land — learning, sometimes the hard way, that the only sane way to handle land-based travel is to become experts in a handful of brands. We visit often, inspect thoroughly, and stay deeply familiar with what we recommend. For everything else, we rely on strong supplier relationships and a healthy amount of professional skepticism.

Before You Book

Two things worth understanding before you start comparing resorts.

Choosing the Right Resort

Not Every All-Inclusive Is a Good Fit

Walk into some resorts and you're walking into a party. The energy is front and center, the foam is literally flying from the pool, and the quiet corners are the exception. Others are built around serenity — hushed tones, wellness menus, and 49 suites of carefully curated calm. The difference is profound, and booking into the wrong one is painful for everyone involved: the guests who figured it out after they unpacked, the staff trying to manage the mismatch, and the guests who booked correctly and are now sharing the pool with someone demanding to know where the foam party is.

Getting Your Money's Worth

You Don't Have to Drink to Get Value

The question we hear most often from clients considering an all-inclusive: will I get my money's worth? Honest answer — the value has almost nothing to do with how much you drink. Jeff quit drinking a few years ago. He also had bariatric surgery, which means he can only eat roughly a cup and a half of food at a sitting. By the math, Jeff should be the worst possible candidate for an all-inclusive resort. He's not. What we've learned is that you focus on the things you will do, not the things you won't.

Sandals, Secrets & Hyatt Ziva

We have been evaluating Caribbean all-inclusive resorts for more than 17 years — Sandals, Secrets, Hyatt Ziva, and the broader Hyatt Inclusive Collection — not as occasional guests, but as advisors who return specifically to understand whether the experience holds up, where it has improved, and where it has not. Janet specializes in Sandals and holds Elite status with the brand, and our experience with the Secrets and Hyatt Ziva properties gives us a working knowledge of the full premium end of the all-inclusive market. When you ask us about any of these resorts, you get an honest answer grounded in current, firsthand experience — not a brochure.

Sandals Regency La Toc

220 acres on a hillside above the Caribbean, fresh off a multi-year renovation, and split into two very different personalities — lively at the beach, quiet on the bluff. The views from Sunset Bluff will make you reconsider your return tickets. The new Rondoval Village replaced a golf course and the resort gained considerably in the trade. One non-negotiable recommendation: take the helicopter from Hewanorra. The drive is scenic in the wrong direction and takes twice as long as it should. At $250 a person, it is the best money you'll spend before you check in.

Jamaica

Sandals Montego Bay

The original. We honeymooned here in 1984. It has grown considerably since then, and not always in the right direction. We will tell you honestly whether it is the right fit.

Dominican Republic · Cap Cana

Secrets Cap Cana

Adults-only, 457 suites, Unlimited-Luxury® on one of the best stretches of beach in the DR — the exclusive Cap Cana enclave, 20 minutes from Punta Cana International. Jeff and I have stayed here twice and keep going back. Seven à la carte restaurants, six bars, a world-class spa, and proximity to the Jack Nicklaus-designed Punta Espada golf course. The Preferred Club tier is worth the upgrade. The no-speaker policy on the beach is worth more than any of it.

Wellness Resorts & Boutique All-Inclusives

Not every all-inclusive is a pool party. Some are designed around a different premise entirely — smaller, quieter, and built for travelers who want to leave feeling genuinely rested rather than just entertained.

Jamaica · Montego Bay

Zoetry Montego Bay

Forty-nine suites, impeccable service, and a wellness focus that actually means something — no organized activities, no beach volleyball, no party energy. Just a beautifully landscaped small property on Montego Bay with a pier positioned for sunrises and sunsets, a spa that Janet calls one of the best she's visited, daily yoga, and a dining program built around fresh local ingredients. Not for everyone — if a wide white sand beach is your priority, look elsewhere. If genuine rest is the goal, this delivers. Note: The resort sustained significant damage from Hurricane Melissa in October 2025 and remains closed. Reopening is TBD. Contact us for the latest status.

Quiet, intimate, and genuinely luxurious.

How we work: a note on all-inclusive planning

All-inclusive resorts are not interchangeable. The difference between a property that delivers and one that disappoints often comes down to details the marketing doesn't mention — which room categories are worth the upgrade, which dining venues are actually good, which properties have aged well and which haven't. We've been inside these resorts. We know which questions to ask before you book, and we ask them on your behalf. Contact us before you start comparing prices online.
